The phrase “China living in 2050” has become a buzzword lately, often shared with videos that highlight the country’s technological advancements. In a recent example, Rana Hamza Saif, a content creator from Pakistan, shared a viral video featuring a friend effortlessly demonstrating a futuristic way to pay using just his palm. Filmed at a local grocery store in Zhuzhou, China, the clip captures Saif and his friends as one of them casually settles the bill with a simple hand gesture, leaving viewers amazed by the seamless blend of convenience and innovation.
The video opens with Saif’s friend describing how those who have “registered their palms” may pay for almost everything in China without even using the internet or a smartphone.
After explaining the process, the seven of them enter a local supermarket, where Saif’s friend is seen outlining the various payment options before using his palm to make the final payment. “China is living in 2050,” the caption of Saif’s post reads.

The video has since gone viral and amassed over 10 million views.
A user wrote, “China is obviously ahead of most of the world, including the USA.”
According to some, India isn’t far behind and offers immediate payment as well, with one user writing, “In India, it’s UPI, best in the world.”
“India me bhi wallet nahi rakhte ab, mobile se hi sari payment ho jati hai (in India, we no longer carry wallets, all payments are done through our mobile phones),” a person said.
“It’s same as the Aadhaar biometric payment India is using since 4-5 years,” another remarked.
Posts concerning China’s palm payment technology are not new. Before Saif, RPG Group chairman Harsh Goenka posted a similar video on X (formerly Twitter). In the video, a woman is seen discussing China’s palm payment technology and its impact. She shares her experience of using this method to pay for a ride on the Beijing metro. Watch the video here:
