How many employees and pensioners will benefit from the announcement of formation of the 8th Pay Commission?

Lakhs of government employees and pensioners of the country are going to benefit from the formation of the 8th Pay Commission.

50 lakh central government employees: In this, different ministries, departments and Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) of the Central Government are going to benefit from it. Their total number is 49.18 lakh (about 50 lakh) employees.

Defense personnel: Army and defense employees, which include members of the Army, Navy and Air Force, will see an increase in their salaries and allowances.

65 lakh pensioners: Government pensioners, whose number will be 64.89 lakh (about 65 lakh) pensioners, also include those retired employees who are retired from different government departments. They will also get the benefit of the new pay scale.

4 lakh employees of Delhi: Along with the Central Government employees, government employees in Delhi are also going to benefit from this.

When will the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?

The recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented from the year 2026 and the previous Pay Commission was implemented in the year 2016. If the Pay Commission in India is applicable for 10 years, then the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission will remain in force till the year 2026. Like today Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed in the press conference that the report of the 8th Pay Commission will come in the year 2026 and after that it will be considered and implemented. The process from approval of the formation of the new Pay Commission to giving recommendations to the government may take about one and a half years and the year 2025 has already started, so it should be assumed that the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented in the second half of the year 2026.
