A man’s quick thinking may have spared two women from a frightening late-night encounter with what he described as a “drunk creep.”
The incident, which the man later described in a now-deleted post on Reddit, occurred around 11 pm as he was making his way home from a wedding. With his family already on their way by car, he set out alone for the short 500-metre walk. “As I reached a turning that also led to the bus stand, I noticed three people ahead of me,” he wrote in the post.
“At first glance, I thought they were together. Two girls and a man walking very close behind them. But as I stepped under the streetlight and got a clearer look, I realised something was off,” he said.
The bystander soon realised the young women looked “visibly scared”. They were walking slowly, huddled together, and their “body language” suggested they were in distress, he said.
“It took me a few seconds to fully process what was happening,” he revealed.
He said that “the man following them looked drunk and predatory.”
“Our eyes met for a moment. In theirs, I saw fear, and a silent cry for help. That was it. I immediately said, ‘Kya kar raha hai? (what are you doing?)’ in a firm voice. The moment he heard me, he panicked and ran off.”
“I asked them if they were okay and what had happened. They explained that they were on their way to catch a bus when this guy started following them, getting too close. They were too scared to even speak. I reassured them, walked with them to the bus stand, and made sure they were safely seated on the bus before I left.”
Reflecting on the event, the man realised he had walked the same stretch without any fear for his safety, while the girls could not walk even a few hundred metres without feeling threatened. “It made me realise how blessed I am to be a man in a world where women constantly have to live on guard. It was messed up. And it made me respect their daily strength even more,” he said.
The post soon went viral on Reddit.
A user commented, “ you are the kind of man this world needs more of. Silent protector, zero show off, all action. I can call you my dream king without a single hesitation.”
Another wrote, “Good job, brother. We are all proud of you.”
“Mate I gotta say that’s a true gentleman. Such acts of kindness are the things that every man must learn. Big Win,” a comment read.
Earlier, a 35-year cabbie shared a similar experience from his past. Years ago, while driving late at night, he noticed a girl walking home from the bus stop being followed by a couple of drunk men on a deserted street. Sensing danger, he repeatedly honked his horn, successfully scaring the men away and ensuring the girl’s safety.
