Kolkata Triple Murder Case: A 14-year-old boy, who survived both an attempted smothering and a car crash, revealed that his father and uncle first killed his mother and aunt before turning on him.

Kolkata Triple Murder Case: As Kolkata Police probe the shocking murder of two women and a girl – found with their wrists slit inside their home – along with a separate car accident involving three other family members around the same time, a survivor has come forward with a chilling account.

The 14-year-old Pratip Dey said that his mother Sudeshna Dey and aunt Romi Dey backed out of a suicide pact at the last moment, after which his father, Pranay Dey, and uncle, Prasun Dey, killed his mother, aunt, before turning on him.

The teen said that he survived the attempt by using breath control techniques to play dead. His uncle, acting on his father’s instructions, tried to smother him with a pillow, The Times of India reported.

What did the teen tell the state child rights commission?

West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR) advisor Ananya Chakraborti Chatterjee stated that Pratip recounted how he survived after his uncle tried to smother him with a pillow. They left the room only after removing the pillow and assuming he was dead.

“He is in a state of shock, the business had failed. He said that his family was trying to figure out how to manage things. All the family members consumed porridge mixed with sleeping pills, his uncle executed it. He also said that his uncle tried to kill him by smothering, but he survived since because of regular yoga practice. He was able to hold his breath,” Chatterjee said.

Once they left, Pratip began breathing again and first saw his cousin Priyamvada, lifeless and frothing at the mouth. As he moved through the house, he found his mother and aunt, both dead in other rooms of their four-storey residence.

When he went upstairs, he saw his father and uncle preparing to die by suicide after payesh, mixed with sedatives, failed to killed them. When they saw him, they convinced him to join them, which he agreed to, as all his loved ones were dead. He told the commission, “What’s the point in living?”

Kolkata Triple Murder Case: What did the autopsy report say?

The autopsy report revealed that the slits on the women’s wrists were not self-inflicted, indicating they were forcibly cut. Both had throat slashes and died due to massive blood loss. The 14-year-old girl had bruises on her chest, legs, lips, and head, and had also been poisoned.

According to police, the girl had refused to eat food after learning about the suicide pact. She was then beaten and force-fed.

The investigation has also revealed that the Dey family, who operated a tannery business, was in financial distress.

Kolkata Triple Murder Case: Current status of the survivors

Over 48 hours have passed since the three survivors were discharged from a private hospital and moved to the state-run Nil Ratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital (NRSMCH). While they are in better health, they still require basic medical care, an official said.

The Dey family’s Tangra house has been sealed for investigation, and “none of their relatives have come forward to help them”.

Kolkata Triple Murder Case: What are the police saying?

Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma confirmed that the two brothers are the primary suspects in the Kolkata triple murder case. “We are pretty sure that the two brothers are behind the crime and there is no involvement of any outsider. They have told us how the entire incident took place. But we need expert opinions to verify and confirm that. At this stage, we are not saying what specific roles they played,” The Indian Express quoted Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma as saying.

Another police official, as per The Indian Express, noted, “It is a murder case and the accused, the two brothers, will eventually be arrested. Their house, which was the place of occurrence, hence it is very tough to figure out where to send the minor child as his future looms uncertain.”
