According to the legend described in the Padma Purana, once a Gandharva and his wife Lavanyavati, named Lalit, lived in the state of Ratnapur. Lalit used to present music in the court, but once he made a mistake in the court, immersed in his wife’s thoughts. The king got angry and cursed him to be born in the demon vagina.

Unhappy Lavanyavati asked the sage Shringi solution. The sage advised him to fast on Kanta Ekadashi. He fasted with reverence and Lalit got freedom from curse with the virtue of the fast.

• Keep fast throughout the day – Falahar or Nirjala fast can be observed.
• Do night awakening and perform bhajan-kirtan.
• On the day of Dwadashi, complete the fast by offering food to the Brahmin or the needy.
