Recent rains have disrupted life in Bengaluru, causing heavy waterlogging in many low-lying areas and leading to widespread chaos. The heavy rainfall impacted airport operations as well, resulting in delays for over 20 flights with several others diverted due to the weather. Amid the chaos, a heartwarming video has been winning over viewers online. Shared by Instagram user Sharmista ShankaraNarayana, the footage shows passengers de-boarding an IndiGo flight in a thoughtful and creative way.

In the video shared by Instagram user Sharmista ShankaraNarayana, IndiGo ground staff at Bengaluru airport are seen assisting passengers as they deboard the plane amidst heavy rain. Using a large plastic sheet as a makeshift canopy, the crew shielded passengers from the downpour while guiding them down the stairs used to deboard the aircraft. This unusual yet considerate gesture has drawn comparisons to traditional Indian weddings where the bride is led to the mandap under a ceremonial canopy held by family and friends.

“This is how I royally deboarded today! Just that there was no dulhan. Thank you Indigo & BIA for ensuring we landed safe. A huge shout out to ground staff who ensured we weren’t drenched while they were shivering, yet helping us,” Sharmista humourously wrote in the caption.

Since being posted three days ago, the video has amassed nearly 3 lakh views and sparked a variety of reactions from the social media users.

One user praised the effort, saying, “That’s called caring for the customer.. It may not be a corporate rule but the local station manager who supports this level of excellence.. I have seen staff getting drenched while they try to keep the passengers dry. Very much like our soldiers., the bullets are for us to keep u safe.”

Others joined in with one user stating, “Hats off to the ground staff,” while another added, “The special effort of ground staff needs an applause.”

Someone else quipped, “I can literally here “Din shagana da chadeya…aayo sakhiyoni ni vera sajeyaa” in background,” and another playfully noted, “Wedding style, entry of bride.”

However, not all reactions were positive. One critic pointed out, “This shows the level of cost cutting company management Indigo could have provided with a step ladder with shades at least in these conditions. But they choose to exploit cheap labour. Indigo should be held accountable as they don’t value the passengers.”

Another added, “With the amount they take for flights, they should give complementary umbrellas to everyone…”

A person sarcastically remarked, “This is from the time when umbrellas didn’t exist.”
