A techie from Bengaluru recently expressed his discontent over the packing charge for Zomato orders. Anand, the user, on X (formerly Twitter) shared his complaints. According to him, Zomato charged Rs 12 as a packaging fee in one of his recent orders. When he received the food, Anand found the box featured an advertisement for the Indian Super League (ISL) team Bengaluru FC. He shared a picture of the food on social media along with the order details. The post grabbed the attention of Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who has been a key component of the Benglauru-based club since 2017.
“Hi Zomato, I ordered shawarma from Empire Restorent, Bangalore and paid 12 rupees as packing charges. But found that the package was wrapped in a Bengaluru FC advertisement. Why do I need to pay for their Advertisement? How many orders rolled out with this box for paid users?” Anand wrote on X.

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu reshared the post and asked the user to share his Google Pay number so that he could pay him the extra charges. The veteran goalkeeper humorously said, “Gpay number de do bhai. Wapas karta hoon 12 rupees (Give me your Gpay number bro. Sending you back that 12 rupees)”
Both the posts soon went viral and attracted numerous reactions from the social media buffs. Some of them were left in splits after seeing the hilarious response of Gurpreet, while others criticised Zomato for the additional packaging charge, that too for outside advertisement.
A user emphasised, “It’s not about the money; it’s about ethical practice. I don’t think he’s complaining about spending an extra 12 rupees. If you’re charging 12 rupees extra, it should be branded as Zomato’s. If any brand wants to advertise there, the packing charge shouldn’t apply.”
