Paneer is considered an excellent source of protein for vegetarians in India. Whether it’s a festival or a grand occasion, people often include paneer in their food menu. Just as chicken and mutton are staple choices for non-vegetarians, vegetarians consume paneer in a similar way. But is the paneer sold in the market actually real?
In the pursuit of profit, many people do not hesitate to adulterate even essential food items. While real paneer is made from milk, counterfeit paneer, openly sold in markets, is made using palm oil, starch and various chemicals.
A man from Haryana recently shocked everyone by sharing a video of bread pakoras made with fake paneer.
When you buy a packet of paneer from the market, it typically costs around Rs 90 to Rs 100 for 200 grams. However, many shopkeepers sell paneer at suspiciously low prices. Street vendors also use paneer in their food items but charge significantly less for them. In the viral video, a young man bought bread pakoras from one such shop for Rs 25, which had paneer inside. However, when he tasted it, he was in for a surprise.
Fake Paneer Exposed
The man first separated the paneer from the pakoras and washed it with clean water. Then, he poured iodine tincture on the paneer, and to everyone’s shock, it turned black immediately. This colour change indicates that the paneer is fake and made solely from chemicals.
In contrast, when he poured the same solution on real paneer, its colour remained unchanged.
