Ireland pacer Liam McCarthy registered the record for the second-most expensive bowling spell in T20Is during the third T20I match against West Indies in Bready on Sunday.
While McCarthy’s figures of 0/81 in four overs are second to Gambia’s Musa Jobarteh, who went for 93 runs in four overs without picking a wicket against Zimbabwe last year, they are the most expensive for a member of a Test playing nation.
The Irish bowler was smashed for 24 runs in the last over of the innings with West Indies posting a mammoth 256 for five, its second-highest T20I total.
Shimron Hetmyer and debutant Keacy Carty laid into McCarthy’s first over, hammering the right-arm seamer for 18 runs. McCarthy made a good comeback in his second over, conceding just six runs. However, Carty and Romario Shepherd took a toll on his bowling in his last two overs at the death, smashing him for two fours and five sixes in 12 balls.
