The closing ceremony for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will be a tribute to the Indian armed forces. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited the Chief of Defence Staff, along with the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Navy staff and Chief of Air Staff for the ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3.
“The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation. As a tribute, we have decided to dedicate the closing ceremony to the armed forces,” the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Sportstar.
Adding to the patriotic fervour, the event is likely to feature a performance by the military bands, followed by a musical ceremony.
Ever since the IPL resumed after a week-long break, following Operation Sindoor, the BCCI has been paying tributes to the armed forces, who displayed their impeccable valour to protect the nation.
While players sang the national anthem together before the start of the match at several venues, messages of ‘Thank you, armed forces’ have also been displayed on the giant screens.
With more than a lakh spectators and several dignitaries in attendance at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the BCCI expects the closing ceremony to be a grand success. “While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country,” Saikia said.
However, this is not the first time a ceremony will be dedicated to the armed forces during the IPL. Back in 2019, the BCCI had invited the military band for the opening ceremony of the tournament in Chennai and also pledged to contribute Rs. 20 crore for the welfare of the armed forces in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack, where 44 CRPF personnel were killed.
