Influencer Victoria Rose, popularly known as Whoa Vicky, recently sparked concerns by claiming she was kidnapped in Nigeria. However, it was later revealed that the whole story was a lie. In an Instagram Live, the Internet personality admitted she made up the kidnapping story simply because she was bored and wanted to have some fun. Her confession quickly triggered an outrage on social media, with many people calling for her arrest. The hoax began when her fans came across concerning messages about her kidnapping in a now-deleted video on X (formerly Twitter) and people who kept her hostage were demanding $1 million.
While speaking with her fans on Instagram in the latest live chat, she could be heard saying, “Sorry about that, everything’s good. I was bored and having fun, just getting a laugh. Just getting a laugh, fam. That’s it. It’s all love, I’m just having fun with my brother, everything’s good. Please forgive me.”
Soon after the confession went viral, the influencer faced a strong backlash with some even calling for arrest. People accused her of tarnishing Nigeria’s reputation.
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “So arrest her, that’s a false crime.”
Another asked, “Who allowed this set of people into Nigeria?”
“Why is she even relevant?” a comment read.
One more added, “She’s too damn old to be still doing the antics.”
In another X post, Victoria Rose explained how her plan came into existence. She wrote, “The prank started with us calling people I know from America. Then my brother from the USA posted it, and it ended up on blogs. Afterwards, my brother from the USA suggested I make a tweet to keep it going, saying it was a good prank and that my father was a great actor. He even mentioned we could make money by creating a cryptocurrency based on the prank. Father and I agreed, but in hindsight, it was a terrible idea. It quickly became clear how bad this was when his friends started calling him, concerned. That’s when we decided to go live and explain that it was all fake. I’ve learned a lot from this, and I’ll be taking time off the Internet to reflect, fast and grow closer to God.”
Whoa Vicky later said she was sorry for any harm caused by her prank. She admitted that not thinking before acting led to serious consequences.
Vicky mentioned that her brother and father had supported her during her trip to Nigeria. She also apologised for mocking the country and claimed that it was never her intention to disrespect anyone. She added that she loves Nigeria and its people.
