India-US Foreign Ministers : America’s new Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Indian Foreign Minister S. Had his first bilateral meeting with Jaishankar. This meeting was very important for India, because the new US Secretary of State traditionally holds his first foreign meeting with a neighboring or NATO ally country like Canada or Mexico. Let us tell you that Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has gone from India on the invitation of the US government to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Donald Trump as the 47th President of America. US State Department released the program
Releasing the schedule of the first day of the new Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the US State Department said, “Rubio met with Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. “Met with Jaishankar.” The department further said, “The meeting between the two top diplomats representing the world’s oldest and largest democracies took place at the State Department’s Foggy Bottom headquarters, coming on the heels of the first Quad ministerial meeting.”
Emphasis laid on strong partnership between America and India
Indian Foreign Minister S. US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio held his first bilateral meeting with Jaishankar. In this meeting, the foreign ministers of both the countries emphasized on further strengthening the partnership between America and India. During this, he emphasized on promoting Indian-American relations, defense cooperation, energy, emerging technology and open Indo-Pacific region along with many regional issues. At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned the Trump administration’s desire to promote economic relations with India and also expressed concern over unusual migration.
India’s stature increased in Trump administration
The US Secretary of State held the Quad ministerial meeting as his first multilateral meeting and his first bilateral meeting with India. The decision of these meetings is important in the sense that the first foreign meeting of the new US administration is traditionally with a neighboring country like Canada or Mexico or a NATO ally.
