After spending 14 years in the US, Aditi Dwivedi made the decision to return to India and settle in Nagpur, a tier-2 city. In a video shared on Instagram, Aditi spoke about how the shift has positively impacted her lifestyle and shared why life in India feels more enjoyable compared to the US. But her video has received mixed reactions from social media users. In the clip, Aditi begins with, “I lived in the USA for 14 years and moved to tier 2 city in India. And here are some of the points where I feel living in India is vastly a different experience as compared to 20 years back.” She goes on to outline the various advantages.

She starts by saying that her dollar earnings go much further in a tier-2 city. With lower living expenses and no rent or utility bills to pay as she stays with her parents, she ends up saving almost half of her salary. One of the changes Aditi loves most is her morning routine. Since she works remotely for a US-based tech company, her work starts in the afternoon. With this, she gets to focus on her physical health. “I spend 30 minutes for my walk and one and a half hours doing yoga. This is the best part about my daily routine,” she says.

Aditi also finds her afternoons productive as she dedicates time to side hustles before her job which begins at 2 PM. Despite working until 9 PM, the flexibility in her schedule lets her balance work, health and personal interests. “The best things about a tier city are affordable cook and domestic help, great food options which are not much expensive and fairly less crowd and not crazy traffic, affordable shopping options with variety,” Aditi adds.

“Peaceful and very easy-going life,” she concludes.

The video has garnered over 7 lakh views so far. Social media users took to the comment section to share their thoughts on Aditi’s take on life in the US vs India.

One user pointed out, “It differs for individuals, because if you have a good friend circle or community you will love life in the USA.”

Another added, “You forgot about internet outages and power outages in tier 2 which are very common.”

“Everyone doesn’t have rent-free housing, almost no bills and a US based job waiting for them in India,” a viewer remarked.

“Wait for a few months then she will complain that it is bad this is not here etc.,” someone said.

Another commenter noted, “Living with parents that’s where the video is no longer relevant. Abroad the first biggest expense is Rent. Talk about life in India away from parents and still have to pay rent or EMI.”

Meanwhile, one supporter commented, “Perfect, if you are not a big city dreamer, skyline chaser and still driven at 40 and don’t want to give up. Big city life is not for everyone!”

Another shared, “All great reasons to move back. Thank you for sharing, I miss living in India as well, however because of my personal circumstances I would prefer not to relocate for good.”
