Household chores are the great equaliser—or are they? Ravi Abuvala, an Indian-origin CEO, has stirred up a debate online by revealing that he hasn’t washed a single dish in four years. His reason? He claims his time is too valuable to spend on such tasks. “Not because I’m lazy. Because my time is worth $5,000/hour,” he shared in a LinkedIn post that quickly caught everyone’s attention. In his post, Abuvala broke down his thought process with cold, hard numbers. “Dishes = $15/hour to delegate. My time = $5,000/hour. Decision = obvious,” he wrote.
The CEO believes outsourcing low-value tasks, like dishwashing, frees him up to focus on high-impact work that aligns with his business goals. “Stop doing $15/hour tasks. Start doing $5,000/hour work. That’s how you scale,” he emphasised.
Accompanying his post was a photo of him on a jet ski, further underscoring his point about living a life of productivity and luxury. But not everyone was convinced.

The post sparked a number of reactions, from nods of agreement to sharp criticisms. One user saw his point, commenting, “Good perspective. I agree. There are so many tasks which can be done by AI or some tasks with hourly workers. I value my time and I rather use it for productive or value-driven work instead of mundane chores. Of course, we all do these things when help is not available.”
However, not everyone was impressed. Another user sarcastically wrote, “Stop sleeping, because sleeping earns $0/hr. Now that’s how you scale.”
Some commenters questioned the logic of assigning monetary value to every activity. “Everything cannot and should not be measured on its dollar value,” one person remarked. Some drew comparisons to other successful figures, with one pointing out, “Remember Jeff Bezos still does the dishes. Make room for puttering.”
Still, there were those who applauded his focus on the “Time Value of Money,” with one user writing, “Well said. One needs to know the Time Value of Money.”
Ravi Abuvala has been the CEO of Scaling With Systems since 2019. His company specialises in helping coaches and agencies grow their businesses efficiently and profitably.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Abuvala graduated from Florida State University in 2016 with dual Bachelor’s degrees in International Relations and Political Science. While at university, he participated in the Honours Programme and served as Vice President of the Investment Banking Club. His early professional journey included an internship at the DeVoe L. Moore Centre and even a stint as an Honours Colloquium teacher.
