
India Pakistan Relations: An Indian fisherman died in Pakistan’s Karachi jail. The name of this fisherman is being described as Babu, who was arrested by Pakistan officials in 2022. In this regard, the Ministry of External Affairs had recently informed that a total of 209 Indian fishermen have been arrested in Pakistan. Of these, 51 fishermen were arrested from 2021, 130 fishermen from 2022, 9 fishermen from 2023 and 19 fishermen were arrested in 2024. Along with this, the Indian government has also raised concerns about the families of fishermen in front of Pakistan, who are eagerly waiting for the release of their loved ones.
An Indian fisherman died last year too
Earlier in 2023, an Indian fisherman died in Pakistan jail. Maharashtra fisherman Vinod Laxman Cole was arrested by Pakistan agencies in October 2022 when he allegedly went to fishing in Pakistan’s maritime area. In March 2024, he suffered a paralysis attack and after that his condition deteriorated. He finally died on 17 March 2024. The condition of fishermen has become more serious due to this incident because many of these fishermen are lodged in Pakistan jails without any concrete reason.
Indian fishermen released since 2014
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 2,639 Indian fishermen have been released from Pakistan since 2014, but still hundreds of Indian fishermen are lodged in Pakistan jails. India is constantly demanding the release of these fishermen from Pakistan so that their families can get relief and they can get justice. This problem of Indian fishermen in Pakistan has been maintained for years and it remains a sensitive issue in the relationship between the two countries.
