A desi dad told his son over WhatsApp that he wanted him to come home for a single day for he was missing him.
A viral WhatsApp message from father to his son hit Reddit right in the feels. (u/ritikkumarz)
Indian dads aren’t particularly famous for being expressive with their children. So when one is, the kid takes notice. This is the story of a young professional, living away from his home, working in a different town. Sharing the WhatsApp texts he received from his father, the son took to Reddit from his account u/ritikkumarz and wrote: “Our parents are lonely while we are away for our career.” The texts from his father simply read: “Ghar kab aa raha hai (When are you coming home).” It was soon followed by a message that read: “Teri yaad aa rahi hai (We are missing you).” And finally, a text urging his son to come home, even if it was for a single day.
Posting the screenshot of the messages from his father, the Reddit user said that he was worried for his father’s mental health and didn’t really know how to word a reply since they only conversed over an “important” topic and did not share a very expressive relationship.
“These whatsapp messages are from my father. I’m 22 and it’s his first time saying something like this. I’m their only child and live in different state for employment and opportunities. After these texts from him, I’m worried about his mental health. I don’t know what to reply. We have had a typical father-son relationship: not talking to each other about anything other than important. The gap in the timings of messages scares me, like what was he thinking at that time. Please guys, take care of your parents (sic).”

Desi Kids Get Emotional
The post immediately resonated with the fellow hissed on the subreddit who were quick to guide the OP.
“Brother, don’t think so much, just say that I am coming.. and please ek baar mil le unko bhi accha lagega aur tere ko bhi (Brother, don’t think so much, just say that I am coming.. and please do meet him once. He will feel better so will you).”
Another user recounted feeling deeply homesick and notifying their employer at the last minute about taking leave, which was not well-received by the company. The last-minute leave request didn’t fare well with the company.
“I packed my stuff, got the bus and left for home. Dropped an email to the office that I have an important thing to do at home, and I left. Next day, HR called me and was kinda acting up on such a short notice leave request. I told her that I had to come home as my parents wanted to see me and it has been 6 months I didn’t go home. She said it wasn’t as urgent, that made me so pissed that I resigned from the company. Though the management apologized and HR got in trouble later on, they requested me to take my resignation back and so I did (sic).”
Messages From Parents
Several working professionals, apparently living away from home, shared messages they received from their parents.
“This is the reason why I’m grateful that I got a job in my home city. I’ll get to see my mom and sis everyday,” another wrote.
