The Indian women’s national team suffered a six-run defeat against the ECB Development XI on Wednesday in a warm-up T20 match at the County Ground in Beckenham.

For India, opener Smriti Mandhana top-scored with a 28-ball 47, which included 10 fours, while wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh notched up 37 runs off 23 balls.

Sarah Glenn took three wickets for the English team, while Ryana MacDonald-Gay and Kirstie Gordon took two scalps apiece.

Shafali Verma, who wasn’t included in India’s ODI squad for its upcoming series against England, had another dismal outing at the top after scoring just 13 off nine balls.

Amanjot Kaur came in at No. 3 and scored a 13-ball 15 while Statemate and captain Harmanpreet Kaur racked up 28 runs. Jemimah Rodrigues had a bad day at the office after scoring just 11 as Radha Yadav was left waging a lone battle as the all-rounder remained not out on 17.

Thirteen was needed off the last over but back-to-back wickets by MacDonald-Gay saw the match being taken away from the Indians.

Earlier, the ECB side won the toss and elected to bat. The English top order did the heavy lifting and contributed 145 runs to the 194-run total. Opener Bryony Smith scored a quickfire 62 off 33 balls with Maia Bouchier and skipper Hollie Armitage adding 35 and 48 respectively.

Amanjot and Sneh Rana took two wickets each with Deepti Sharma and Radha also finding themselves amongst the wickets.

This was India’s second consecutive loss to the ECB side after it lost by 18 runs in an One-Day warm-up match on Tuesday.

India is set to face England in the first of five T20Is on Saturday, June 28. The two sides are also scheduled to play each other in three ODIs.
