QUAD at Sea Mission: India, America, Japan and Australia have started the shared ‘Quad Marine Monitoring Mission’ for the first time, in which officials from the four countries have left for Guam from the American warship. Taking a historic initiative towards giving new height to maritime security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, Quad countries India, America, Japan and Australia have launched a shared maritime monitoring mission for the first time. It is named “Quad at C Ship Observer Mission”. Under this mission, two officers from the four countries, including women, have left for Guam on the US warship usCGC stretton. The Ministry of Defense has described it as a historic step under the Wilmington Declaration.

Quad mission increased under Wilmington Declaration
The mission was mentioned in the Wilmington Declaration adopted by Quad leaders in September 2024. This is a collective effort of quad towards strengthening independent, open, inclusive and rules-based marine system in the Indo-Pacific region. The objective of this initiative is to promote inter-operating capacity, piracy awareness and operational coordination.

For the first time, the partnership of marine agencies of the four countries
The mission is the first joint campaign between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Japan Coast Guard (JCG), American Coast Guard (USCG) and Australian Border Force (ABF). In this, India’s active participation ‘Sagar’ means the principle of “safety and development for all in the region and the Indo-Pacific Ocean Insiative (IPOI).

Emphasis on regional participation and confidence building
Through this shared mission, India’s commitment to create capacity building, human relief, and a rule-based maritime system is more clear through this shared mission. The ‘Quad at C’ mission not only strengthens the coordination between the Coast Guard, but also deepens confidence and operations in the Indo-Pacific sector.

Stirred in China, stress increased again due to Guam
