India gave a ‘dose’ to Bangladesh by sending a ‘friend’! Yunus government’s attitude has changed, now it said this

Amidst the continuously deteriorating relations between India and Bangladesh, the attitude of Mohammad Yunus government has weakened. In fact, relations between the two countries have reached their worst level. A few days ago, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also visited Bangladesh and met Mohammad Yunus, the key advisor to the interim government. Meanwhile, the interim government of Bangladesh said on Saturday (14 December 2024) that it wants strong relations based on mutual respect and equality with all countries including India.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammad Tauheed Hussain made these comments during two separate meetings with officials, journalists, leaders and intellectuals in Raipura and Belabo upazilas of Narsingdi, ‘Dhaka Tribune’ newspaper reported.

Bangladesh’s attitude has changed

Mohammad Tauheed Hussain said that Bangladesh has sent a message to India, expressing its desire for good relations, but it should be based on mutual interests. Hossain said Bangladesh wants good relations with all countries on the basis of respect and equality and the government is working towards this goal. Hussain also stressed the interim government’s commitment to fair governance, including addressing the concerns of the public, including students, and implementing reforms aimed at ensuring fair elections.

When will elections be held in Bangladesh?

General elections were held in Bangladesh only last year. Sheikh Hasina’s Awami Party got majority in this election. But then the opposition did not participate in the elections. Almost a year later, in August, Sheikh Hasina had to resign from the post and leave the country due to the violent agitation. After this, the organization leading the student movement made Mohammad Yunus the chief advisor of the interim government. But questions are constantly being raised that when will the power of Bangladesh remain in the hands of a government which has not been elected by the people.

Regarding this type of question, Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammad Tauheed Hussain said that we are working on some reforms, as soon as these reforms are done, then political power will be transferred to the elected leaders.
