
Fifties from KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran took India A to 163 for four in the second innings, extending its lead to 184 runs on the third day of the second unofficial Test against England Lions in Northampton on Sunday.
Rahul followed up his first-innings hundred with a half-century, while Abhimanyu impressed with a 92-ball 80 after failing to perform in the first innings. The pair put together 88 runs for the second wicket and steadied the innings after Yashasvi Jaiswal was nabbed by George Hill early in the innings.
Having posted 348 all out in their first innings, India A bowled out England Lions for 327 in the first essay to take a slender 21-run lead.
Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed was the most successful India A bowler, returning figures of 4/70 in 19 overs. His efforts were pivotal in forcing the home team’s innings into a collapse.
England Lions went from 219 for three to 243 for eight in the space of 13 overs. However, Josh Tongue put up defiant rearguard stands with Farhan Ahmed and Eddie Jack for the final two wickets, taking England Lions within touching distance of India A’s score.
