Jankovic was seen slamming his laptop shut and rushed towards the CEO as the two shouted abuses at each other, prompting other employees to intervene to avoid a physical confrontation. After the incident, Jankovic issued a statement, where he said that incidents of workplace mobbing were common at ShiftDelete.
CEO Issues Apology
Alkan later issued an apology, saying he lost control of his emotions and threw a “branch” towards his desk. He said Jankovic was not injured in the incident.
“We had a disagreement with my colleague Samet, who has made great contributions to our platform over the past 4 years, regarding content that needed to be published. Unfortunately, this discussion escalated to an unwanted point for both of us,” Alkan was quoted as saying by Bianet.
“During the argument, I lost control of my emotions and threw a branch from a flower nearby toward his desk – and it hit him. Thankfully, he was not harmed. I have submitted the office security camera footage, showing both the moments before and after the incident, to the authorities.”
“It’s deeply saddening for all of us that a work relationship, which had always been like that of an older and younger brother, has come to this. I sincerely apologise to my brother Samet and to all of you for what happened. I will do everything in my power to manage the stress that comes with our demanding work and to ensure a more peaceful environment for my team to create content,” he added.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Meanwhile, Jankovic issued a statement on August 29, saying that Alkan had hurled a flower pot filled with gravel at him. He said he initiated legal proceedings against the CEO for the attack.
“In the past four years, neither I nor my colleagues ever received any compensation for the overtime we worked. Just recently, the raise that was promised to me was cancelled,” Jankovic said on X. “I’m not even going to go into the mobbing. I’m talking about a workplace where insults and threats are constantly thrown around.”
Referring to Alkan’s apology, he said, “It was actually a situation where he threw something without seeing what he picked up — an object with gravel inside. I felt immense pain in that moment. and I went after him. My friends had a hard time holding me back. This incident became the breaking point. Unjust earnings, blocking the way for small influencers.”
“He did contribute a lot to my career, and I also contributed significantly to the organisation. But if you attack someone you’ve called your brother for four years in front of others, there will obviously be consequences. As someone who has served this company even late into the night, I didn’t deserve this,” he added.
“The process is in court. I want to state that I will continue on my path alone after this process. No matter what happens, every era has its man. This era will surely turn.”
