For so many, school life was almost always about carrying backpacks—full of workbooks, notebooks, and textbooks. But it turns out it’s not the same everywhere. An Indian woman, living in China, has shared a video showing what school life looks like for young kids there.
Nishi Sharma posted a video on Instagram, and it is nothing like most parents in India would expect.
Sharma opened her kid’s edgy bag on video revealing it only had a few essential items. It contained two pairs of T-shirts, a pair of shorts, and a pair of trousers. Unlike the heavy bags students across many nations carry, Sharma’s child’s bag had no books, water bottles or even lunch boxes.
Nishi, who is originally from Lucknow and is settled in Guangzhou, explained that her kid’s school provides it all—food, water, and study material. She also said that her child goes to school at 8 am and returns by 4 pm. The full-day schedule is reportedly created keeping in mind students’ holistic development.
Reacting to the video, most users were fascinated by the school’s approach.
Some also talked about how it differed from the ‘desi’ school experience.
One of the users lamented that in India, the kids have to carry so many books that even a sack would fall short. “Your kid is lucky,” the user wrote.
Another user echoed similar sentiments and wrote, “India mein toh KG ke bacchon ke pass bhi 5 kilo books hoti hai (In India, even the students in kindergarten have to carry a lot of books).”
“Padai kab our kya karta hai (When and what do the kids study?)” read another comment.
Some were curious about what was so special there. Sharma responded that the bag could prevent kids from injuries during an earthquake if held above their heads. When asked about the fee, she said she paid Rs 35,000 per month for kindergarten.
