IIT Bombay asked for so many packages from companies for placement

IIT Bombay: This year the placement session of IIT Bombay is starting from 1st December. Many important changes will be seen this time in the session, however, like last year, this time also the companies of IT sector are not showing much interest in the students here due to which less hiring is being estimated in this sector.

Indian Institute of Technology of Bombay (IIT Bombay) has asked companies to offer a package of at least Rs 6 lakh to students for its upcoming placement session. IIT Bombay has taken this decision after the minimum offer of Rs 4 lakh in the last placement session. Last year, seven companies had offered packages ranging between Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh to 10 students.

This year the placement session of IIT Bombay is starting from 1st December. An important change will be seen in this new session. This time, more participation is being seen from core sector companies, while less interest is being seen from IT firms. An IIT Bombay official said that the demand for IT firms had increased during the Covid-19 recovery years 2021 and 2022, although the hiring numbers remained very low last year.

Emphasis on new sectors and startups

Keeping in mind the changing needs of the students, IIT Bombay has made a more targeted selection based on their feedback and industry trends. This year the institute has also invited new startups and PSUs.

Despite the lack of demand for hiring in the IT sector, the placement team is hopeful of international hiring. According to the information, this time Japanese companies will also participate in the placement session and the institute is also expecting an increase in foreign offers.

Apart from this, attention is also being given to startups, especially those which have been working for three to four years. Students who have received Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) will also be allowed to participate in regular placements.

Increase in placement numbers

This year, more than 2,400 students have registered for placements, whereas in 2015-16, 1,400 students had participated in the placements. Last year, IIT Bombay received 300 PPOs, out of which 258 were accepted.
