In a world often driven by self-interest, Vipin Kumar Awasthi stands out as a remarkable example of transformation and compassion. Once a reckless spendthrift, this man from Kanpur, UP, has turned his life around to become a beacon of hope for the underprivileged, especially young girls in need.
The Wake-Up Call That Changed Everything
Vipin’s early years were marked by lavish spending on parties and travel. His father, frustrated by his wasteful lifestyle, gave him a piece of advice that changed his life forever: “If you want to spend, spend it on someone’s happiness, help poor girls get married.” That heartfelt suggestion struck a chord, sparking a shift in Vipin’s priorities.
Motivated by his father’s wisdom, Vipin went on to establish Sangam Sevalay Sansthan in 2017. The organisation began with simple but impactful initiatives like Roti Bank, Bartan Bank and Kapda Bank, providing food and clothing to those in need.
It has since grown into a full-fledged community support network, planting trees, conserving sparrows, offering free drinking water, and distributing medical equipment.
Spreading Happiness Through Service
What truly sets Vipin apart is his unwavering commitment to empowering underprivileged girls. Each year, his organisation donates school essentials like bags, bottles, and tiffins to 1,000 girls. But he goes even further by personally arranging the marriages of two poor girls every year. From gold jewellery to household items, everything is taken care of. And this isn’t funded by donors, Vipin selflessly contributes 25% of his personal income to these causes.
Vipin says his journey into social service hasn’t just helped others, it’s healed him too. Once plagued by high blood pressure and persistent headaches, he no longer needs medication. “Since I started helping others, I sleep peacefully. The joy I see on their faces is the best medicine I could ever ask for,” he says.
