When you pass the intermediate examination, you have to train for two years with articleship, ie an experienced chartered accountant. During this training, you get real accounting and tax experience. After completing the articleship, the candidates are ready for the final and the most important stage CA final exam. If a candidate starts CA after 12th, it takes about 5 years to complete the entire course. Whereas it takes about 4 and a half years for those who start after graduation.
