Modern cars are packed with technology, some more obvious than others. While features like automatic transmissions are well-known, others, like the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), often go unnoticed until they malfunction.
A recent viral video highlighted a crucial but lesser-known car feature: the ABS warning sign on car dashboards. This feature is found in only a few cars in India, yet it is crucial for drivers to know about. It acts as a warning sign, and if it appears on your car’s dashboard, you should stop immediately to prevent serious trouble.
The video, shared on Instagram by car enthusiast @chequanxiaoqiao, stresses the importance of immediately stopping the car if this warning appears, as it indicates a problem with the ABS, potentially leading to brake failure.
This Chinese content creator has 67 lakh followers, and she regularly shares car-related videos to educate people. In her recent video, she explained a critical car feature. She shares that if a specific dashboard warning light appears, the driver should stop the car immediately, as the warning is linked to the ABS.
What Is ABS?
ABS stands for Anti-lock Braking System. If the ABS warning light turns on, it indicates that the system is not functioning properly. This could lead to brake failure, posing a serious risk to the driver. The woman in the video explained that fixing this issue at a garage could cost over Rs 2 lakh. However, she demonstrated a simple way to fix it independently.
How To Fix The Wheel Speed Sensor
She first removed the front tyre and checked the left wheel speed sensor using a multimeter. The resistance reading should be around 1.3, but in her case, it showed infinity, indicating that the sensor had burnt due to a short circuit. If the sensor malfunctions, the ABS warning light and fault indicator on the dashboard will remain illuminated.
To fix the issue, she replaced the sensor herself, which costs around Rs 4,500. According to The Daily Star website, this cost is based on UK prices, and the price may be lower in India. After replacing the sensor, she restarted the car, and the warning light disappeared.
This video has gone viral, amassing over 3 lakh views and receiving significant attention from netizens.
