A LinkedIn post by a tech worker from Hyderabad has gone viral and started a big online debate. In the post, he shared how he left work one hour early after feeling slightly unwell, hoping to avoid taking a full sick day. Some people praised him for being smart, but many others criticised him. They said his decision showed a “toxic” work culture and that he could have spread illness to others by not staying home.
“Saved 5 hours just by acting smart. The day I felt something off like a fever was on the way, I didn’t wait for it to hit hard. I wrapped up an hour early and went home. That night? Full-blown fever,” the techie wrote on LinkedIn.
“But because I gave myself that buffer, I rested for 10–11 hours straight, and guess what? The next morning, I was back at work just 2 hours later instead of wasting an entire sick day,” he added in his now-viral post.
He went on to emphasise the importance of listening to one’s health, saying, “Time is precious. Your health is too.”
The post was later shared on Reddit with the caption, “What?!” and has since sparked reactions from several users.

Posted on June 29, it has received over 300 upvotes along with a flurry of critical comments.
A user on Reddit said, “Dude is still contagious and should have stayed home. Agree?”
Another commented, “I’ve definitely done this before to try to minimise my PTO, and it’s sometimes worked – but I work remotely, so there was no danger of me spreading anything around the office.”
An individual strongly noted, “Fever generally means ‘infectious’, stay home, I ain’t eating downtime because you can’t be bothered to take an actual sick day.”
Yet another added, “Stay home when you’ve been sick. You’re still shedding the virus after the fever breaks! FFS, this is how pandemics happen!”
In another instance, a Reddit user reportedly shared a funny yet cringeworthy story of how his weekend getaway plan completely backfired. He had called in sick on a Friday to enjoy a peaceful trip to Coorg, planning to return by Monday without raising any suspicion.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly until a reel from the homestay, featuring someone dancing happily in the background, went viral on Instagram, reportedly gaining over 13,000 likes. The real shocker? He was tagged in the video, instantly blowing his cover and turning his secret trip into public knowledge.
