How did India become a ‘peacemaker’ between Ukraine-Russia to Israel-Hamas? Foreign Minister told


India has actively participated in diplomacy for a peaceful resolution to the wars between Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, while interacting with the Indian community in Brisbane, Australia, said that India is one of the few countries which can communicate with the opposite sides in both the conflicts.

The Indian Foreign Minister further said that both have become a matter of concern due to the widespread impact of the war. He said, “We are trying to do something in both wars in different ways.” He also mentioned the concerns of 125 global countries, which are bearing the brunt of this war.

Role of Prime Minister Modi

Foreign Minister Jaishankar told that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Has shown activism on this issue. PM Modi has visited Russia in July and Ukraine in August. Additionally, he held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in June and September and with President Vladimir Putin in Kazan, Russia in October. S. Jaishankar said that it is important that the world does not sit idle and say, ‘Come on, let them fight among themselves, one day they will get tired and something will happen.’ Because every day the world is having to pay the price of this war.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that initially there was some doubt about India’s diplomatic efforts but now western countries have become more understanding. India is also getting strong support from the Global South. It is hoped that through different dialogues we can create some common ground so that diplomacy can begin.

S Jaishankar said that the lack of direct communication between Iran and Israel is an important problem and many countries are trying to bridge this gap. India is playing an active role in taking this dialogue forward. Both conflicts have wide-ranging impacts globally, such as inflation, instability in energy and food security, and disruptions in supply chains. We live in a globalized world, where any instability impacts everywhere.
