Official Language Of Bengaluru: A viral video showing people struggling to name Bengaluru’s official language, choosing Hindi, English, and Tamil, has been gaining significant traction on social media. The video has also drawn strong reactions from Kannadigas, who are voicing their frustration over the misrepresentation.

In the vox pop video, which was apparently recorded in Mumbai, nobody mentioned Kannada as the official language of the Silicon Valley of India.

‘Hindi is the official language of Bengaluru?’

“What is the official language of Bengaluru?” asked a man in the viral video who was taking public opinion.

In response, a woman said, “I think Bengaluru doesn’t have an official language.”

Another said, “Hindi.” A third joined, “Hindi or Sanskrit. I am putting my best bet on both.”

Three other women also believed that Hindi is the official language of Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, someone else responded with “Tamil,” while others said, “English.”

After watching the viral video, many from the southern city expressed frustration over what they see as the diminishing recognition of their language in the Karnataka capital.

“I bet 80 per cent of them don’t even know where Bengaluru is! These GenZ kids lack General Knowledge!” said one social media user.

Another added, “Send them back to school.” “Atrocious,” commented a third.

A fourth said, “Sad really! These Gen Zs are a new virus of the society! No general knowledge, no update on current affairs! Just Insta, Tinder, FB….”

“Kannadigas have learned Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi to respect and accommodate others, but in return, they are being sidelined in their own land. The minority outsiders have made their languages more dominant, dishonoring Kannada,” expressed yet another social media user.

A fifth X user posted, “This is not entirely their fault because they were brought up with the notion that Hindi is the national language, reinforced by schools and the stereotyping of South Indians as either Madrasis (i.e., Tamil) or communists (i.e., Malayalis). Now, they are familiar with Telugu because of masala movies, but Kannada remains unheard of.”
