Brian Thompson Murder: Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealth’s insurance unit, was shot dead outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday (December 4) morning. The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that a 50-year-old man was shot at approximately 6:40 am. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. Although police did not release the name, multiple reports confirmed that the deceased was Thompson.
Police investigation has revealed that the attack was deliberate. According to the New York Times, the suspect was present in the area for a long time before the incident. The suspect was wearing a cream-colored jacket and a gray back pack and fled the scene after the shooting. The police are still searching for him.

The incident occurred when UnitedHealth’s investor conference was going on in Manhattan. About 9 a.m., an hour after the program began, UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty announced its closure. He said, “We are facing a serious situation with one of our team members so we have to stop this program for now.”

According to the information, the police have surrounded 54th Street at the incident site. Many bullet casings and plastic gloves were found there which shows the seriousness of the situation. Christian Diaz, who works near the hotel, said, “It is not common to hear gunshots at 7 in the morning. It was very scary.”
