In a bizarre turn of events that has gripped local conversation, a domestic dispute stemming from social media snowballed into a full-blown marital rift in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district. What began with the loss of two followers on Instagram has now led to job loss, police intervention, and a couple living apart.
The incident revolves around a woman named Nisha, originally from Pilkhuwa, who married Vijendra, a resident of Noida. Nisha, known in her circle for her regular social media reels, reportedly grew upset after noticing a sudden dip in her follower count. Convinced that her husband’s past remarks about reducing her online presence were somehow linked to the loss, she confronted him in a fit of rage.
Sources say the couple had already been at odds over Nisha’s social media habits. Vijendra had earlier suggested she cut back on her online activities and pay more attention to household responsibilities, a suggestion that briefly led Nisha to limit her content creation.
But the drop in followers reignited tensions. An argument ensued, turning so heated that Nisha packed her bags and returned to her maternal home in Pilkhuwa. There, she approached the Women’s Police Station in Hapur and lodged a complaint against her husband.
What followed was a series of counselling sessions conducted by the local police in an attempt to mediate the dispute. Officials claim that the situation has now cooled down, yet the couple continues to live separately.
Adding another layer of misfortune, Vijendra reportedly lost his job in the aftermath of the dispute, a development that has only worsened his financial situation. He is now said to be actively searching for new employment, appearing for interviews across the city.
Efforts to speak with both parties yielded no on-record statements. Neither Nisha nor Vijendra were willing to comment publicly.
The unusual nature of the dispute, where something as minor as two lost social media followers triggered a domestic breakdown, has turned the case into a talking point throughout Hapur. While police believe tempers have settled, reconciliation remains uncertain.
