Hariyali Teej, one of the most auspicious festivals for married Hindu women, is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm, especially in northern India. Dedicated to the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, Hariyali Teej symbolises marital bliss, love, and prosperity. Women observe a day-long fast and pray for the long life and well-being of their husbands or for an ideal life partner.
However, this year, there is confusion over the exact date of the festival, whether it falls on July 26 or 27. Astrologer Dr Mrityunjay Tiwari of Maharishi Panini Sanskrit and Vedic University, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, has provided clarification on the correct date and auspicious timings for Hariyali Teej in 2025.
The confusion has arisen because the Sawan Shukla Tritia Tithi begins at 10:41 PM on Saturday, July 26, and continues until 10:41 PM on Sunday, July 27. In such cases, the date of celebration is usually determined based on Udaya tithiwhich prevails at sunrise.
According to this, since Tritiya tithi begins at sunrise on Sunday, July 27 (from 05:40 AM), Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on Sunday, July 27, 2025. This is the correct and scripturally accepted date.
