A young man from Bareilly died by suicide after allegedly being harassed by his wife and her family following marital discord. Identified as Raj Arya, the man hung himself inside his room on Wednesday, April 9, days after his wife, Simran, lodged a case against him and his entire family. An FIR was filed at the local police station where Simran’s brother worked as a constable.
As per reports, Raj Arya and Simran had a love marriage in April 2024 and became parents to a baby girl just 45 days ago. Their family members spoke to news agency PTI, stating that tensions were building for some time, prompting Simran to leave for her maternal house.

On Wednesday morning, Simran allegedly shared Instagram stories claiming to have filed a police complaint against her husband, adding, “He will be in jail by 10:30 am.” In a follow-up post, she continued, “Now go to jail.”
Later the same evening, Raj Arya took his life. Speaking to the police, the deceased’s mother recalled her conversation with her son, when he told her, “Maa, I’m going to sleep forever.” Unaware of his intentions, she grew concerned and eventually found him hanging from the ceiling fan.

Speaking on the matter, Circle Officer Ajay Kumar said that further legal proceedings would be initiated only after receiving a formal complaint from the family. Meanwhile, several old videos of the couple have surfaced online, sparking a debate among users.
One wrote, “This happiness is only limited to the reel. Not in real,” while another added, “There should also be a men’s commission where men can present their side.”
The India Council for Men Affairs, in a strong post, demanded the suspension of Simran’s constable relative. “Simran used to post reels on a regular basis on Instagram, and she used to project her matrimonial life as picture-perfect through her reels. But in reality, she was torturing and harassing her husband like anything,” the post added.
Raj’s body has been sent for a postmortem. It is yet to be seen if his family levels criminal charges against Simran.
