Imagine waking up in the middle of the night, only to find a lion waiting for you in the kitchen! That’s exactly what happened with a family in Gujarat’s Amreli district as their nightmares turned into a reality when they found the dangerous mammal atop a kitchen wall.
The incident took place in a village in Amreli’s Rajula taluka, as faint noises were heard in the middle of the night, according to a report by the Times of India. However, the sleeping family initially dismissed the roars as those of a house cat.
However, residents were startled by the persistent noises and when they came to check with flashlights, they found a fully-grown lion staring back at them, squeezing in between the kitchen wall and the rafters. The family began screaming, alerting their neighbours.

Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident as the lion looked for food before leaving the house empty-handed. The animal apparently jumped over a 12 or 13-foot wall to get in to the house. People who had gathered at the house made sounds cautiously to ensure that the lion did not panic, and shot videos on their phones.
The incident caused the family to evacuate their home immediately, and they only returned after authorities confirmed that the big cat had left the house. This incident adds to the growing list of several lion appearances in Gujarat.
The village lies close to both forested areas and the coasts, which explains the unexpected lion appearances. In May last year, at least 14 lions were spotted crossing a road near the Gir National Park, leaving people awestruck as well as concerned.
It is also worth mentioning that over the years, the population of lions has increased in India. The Gujarat forest department plays a crucial role in the conservation efforts for lions, including conducting regular population censuses to monitor lion numbers and health.
