Greek Heiress Who Survived Cancer Dies After Suspected Insect Bite In London

Marissa Laimou, a 28-year-old Greek heiress who had recently overcome a battle with breast cancer, has tragically died in London following what is believed to have been a toxic reaction to an insect bite. According to LBCLaimou, also known as Lemos, was found dead in her bed on September 11 by her housekeeper at her London flat.

Greek media reported that Laimou had been experiencing a range of troubling symptoms in the days leading up to her death, including dizziness, fever, itching, and visible signs of infection. Despite these symptoms, a doctor who visited her at home only prescribed paracetamol, and her condition failed to improve.

Concerned about her deteriorating health, Laimou later sought help from an oncologist at a London hospital. According to her mother, she was then transferred by ambulance to a second hospital. However, her family and friends claim that at this second facility, she was only examined by nurses and not seen by a doctor.

Despite her symptoms, she was reportedly given antibiotics and diagnosed with what medical staff believed to be an insect bite reaction. She was discharged later that same evening. Less than 24 hours later, she was discovered unresponsive in her bed.

Her mother, Bessy Laimou, told Greek media that she believes her daughter died from toxic shock caused by the insect bite. “My daughter had survived cancer and died from an insect,” she said. “She was a girl with so many gifts. All of England is crying, and so are all her doctors.”

As of now, the exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed. An autopsy has yet to be performed, and the family has stated that they are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination to learn more about what happened. It is also currently unknown what type of insect may have bitten her.

At the time of her death, Laimou was involved in staging a production of Romeo and Juliet in London through the theatre company she managed.

The Laimou family is part of a prominent Greek shipping dynasty with roots dating back to the early 20th century.
