Government issued refund in 12.55 cases of tax collection on toll in 2024

Toll Collection Refund: Tax is charged from millions of vehicles passing through toll plazas, which are used for maintenance, repair and other development works of roads. However, many times people accidentally get deducted by mistake. In the year 2024, refunds have been issued in 12.55 lakh cases of accidental tax collection at the toll gate.

Due to these reasons, money is deducted by mistake on toll

Nowadays, the automatic money is deducted from the fastag on the toll, but it also has some flaws such as the toll is cut twice, many times the car does not pass through the toll that the money is deducted, sometimes more tax is charged from the fixed route or category of the car. Many times, due to the technical fault, more charge is taken from the car, sometimes the money is deducted due to the wrong entry of toll operators.

Government’s big step in case of wrong toll recovery

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said in the Lok Sabha on Thursday that if the toll agencies are found to be responsible for incorrectly charging toll, then the toll collector can be fined up to 1,500 times the wrong toll recovered amount.

He said, “The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), which provided the Central Cleanliness Home (CCH) services of the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) Program, reported the incorrect tax of the collection of 12.55 lakhs, which is 0.03 percent of the collection, which is 0.03 percent of the collection in the year 2024.

The Union Minister also said, “In the wrong toll collection cases concerned agencies have been fined more than two crore rupees so far. In 2024, refunded in more than 5 lakh cases.
