Bengaluru, the tech hub of India, has been maintaining a reputation for its infamous traffic, even making global headlines at a time. Despite having a number of tunnels, elevated corridors, and flyovers, the city continues to remain notorious for its peak-hour traffic jams, leaving regular commuters struggling every day. With an interesting twist to the same old traffic woes, Google Maps was tricked into believing the Bengaluru traffic was a parking spot after a car got stuck on the road for a long period.
An individual recently took to the social media platform Reddit and shared a screenshot of Google Maps, showing his location being saved as a parking spot. The man revealed how he was stuck on the Domlur flyover for several hours, resulting in the hilarious confusion. “I was stuck in traffic on Domlur flyover for so long today that Google Maps thinks I parked there,” the caption read.
The post instantly went viral, sparking a series of reactions from social media users. While many explained why his location was shown as a parking spot, others could not help but laugh over the situation. A user wrote, “Technically you are parked if you are not moving,” while another added, “Google Maps does not determine if we parked or not by the amount of time we stay at a place. It does when your Bluetooth gets disconnected from the car. So most likely you turned your car OFF to save some fuel and Google Maps assumed you had parked. Good luck on Bangalore traffic.”
“Another Peak Bengaluru moment,” another comment read.
Well, this is not the first time for the tech giant to cross paths with Bengaluru traffic. In July 2024, Google Maps confirmed how walking can be faster for commuters than driving in the IT city. A user shared a Google Maps screenshot on X, revealing the time it showed to walk vs to drive from the Brigade Metropolis to KR Puram Railway Station. With a distance of around six kilometres, the image reflected 42 minutes for an individual the time to walk, whereas driving to the same destination would take 44 minutes.
“This happens only in Bangalore,” he wrote.
