Following the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gaurav Taneja, a former commercial pilot and popular YouTuber known as “Flying Beast,” shared his insights on the potential cause. He suggested a catastrophic technical failure, specifically a dual-engine failure after takeoff, might have led to the accident.

Taneja emphasised that only a complete power loss could force a modern aircraft into such a rapid descent shortly after takeoff.

He expressed his concern, stating, “Looks like a Dual Engine Failure after Take Off. Nothing short of a complete power loss can force a modern aircraft into that kind of sink rate, right after take off. Praying for everyone on board”.

While replying to a follower who asked about the likelihood of such a failure, Taneja emphasised the extreme rarity of the situation. “Extremely extremely extremely rare… a pilot cannot do anything, if he loses both engines after take off at 600 feet with a building in front,” he replied.

“Shocked to see a wide-body aircraft just go down. Nightmare for a pilot. We have been in simulator sessions where our instructor simulates a dual-engine failure, and we struggle to gain control of the aircraft. BUT at the end, the instructor freezes the sim and says ‘that was just a demonstration’. Can’t even imagine if this happens in real life,” he wrote in another comment.

Gaurav Taneja, a seasoned pilot with over 10 years of commercial flying experience, has transitioned into a successful YouTube career, sharing valuable aviation insights and analysing real-world incidents.

Recently, he discussed a harrowing aviation incident involving an IndiGo flight bound for Srinagar, which faced treacherous weather conditions after being denied entry into Pakistani airspace due to geopolitical tensions.

A devastating crash occurred when Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (VT-ANB), plummeted to the ground minutes after departing from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12.

The flight, destined for London Gatwick Airport (LGW), carried 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The tragic incident occurred around 1.39 pm local time (08.09 GMT).

Air India confirmed that 241 on board the doomed flight had died. The plane crashed into a medical college hostel’s mess area, resulting in additional fatalities on the ground. A total of 265 bodies, including medical students, were taken to the city’s civil hospital till late Thursday night, a police official told news agency PTI.
