Bangladesh Terrorist Abdus Door Greetings: A Bangladesh court has given relief to another anti-India person. Last Tuesday (December 24), former minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) member Abdus Salam Pintu was released from jail after 17 years. Abdus Salam Pintu is accused of funding terrorists from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK) and Bangladesh. Abdus Salam assisted Pakistan-based terrorist organization Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI) in carrying out terrorist attacks against India. He was sentenced to death for plotting a grenade attack on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2004.
Abdus Salam has played a key role in terrorist attacks in India by helping HUJI in POK’s arms procurement, recruitment and training programme. He was accused of helping HUJI provide training in guns and explosives to madrassa students and raising funds and arms for terrorists in Kashmir. Pakistan-based HuJI is a designated terrorist organization not only in India but also in Bangladesh, Israel, New Zealand, Britain and the US.
According to the Dhaka-based Daily Star, Abdus was acquitted by the High Court. He was in jail since 2008. According to a PTI report, the investigating officer in the 2004 grenade attack case told a Dhaka court in 2021 that Abdus Salam Pintu, who assisted the banned organization HuJI. He had helped the organization purchase weapons for use against India.
Recruitment of Bangladeshi terrorist in POK
Apart from Abdus Salam Pintu, Bangladesh had recently also released another former BNP minister Lutfozaman Babar, who was accused of trying to assassinate Sheikh Hasina in 2004. In 2011, the investigating officer also told the court that Abdus and Babar had trained many youth, mainly madrassa students, in handling weapons and bombs. All these people were from Bangladesh only.
Pakistan based HuJI carried out terrorist attacks in India
HUJI played a key role in carrying out terrorist attacks in India as part of the Pakistani establishment’s “Bleed India with a Thousand Cuts” doctrine. This included several smaller attacks, such as the 2006 Varanasi court complex bombing, the 2007 Ajmer Sharif Dargah bombing and the 2011 Delhi bombing. HuJI is known to work closely with other terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) and has support and protection from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
