
Nepal: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said on Sunday (March 23, 2025) that former King Gyanendra Shah is not suitable for becoming a constitutional king. This comment of former Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has come at a time when pro -monarchy is holding rallies in Kathmandu and other parts of the country and demanding the reinstatement of the 240 -year -old monarchy ended in 2008. Supporters of the monarchy have become active since when former King Gyanendra Shah on Democracy Day in February said that now the time has come when we should take responsibility for the security and unity of the country.
‘RPP will regret making Gyanendra its president’
In an event organized by the Bagmati Province Training Department of Nepali Congress, Deuba suggested that the pro -monarchy National Democracy Party (RPP) should make the former king its president. Former PM Deuba said, “Even though RPP makes Gyanendra his president, he will eventually regret it.”

He said, “If the former King wanted to join politics, he could form his party.” He said that there is no possibility of returning to the monarchy in Nepal. He also said that Gyanendra is not suitable for becoming a constitutional king.

In a statement issued by the ruling Nepali Congress party, it has been said that there is no need to change the current political system of Nepal. The Constitution of Nepal, which is based on the system of democratic republic, was prepared by the Constituent Assembly selected by the Nepali people. On March 28, pro -monarchy and pro -Republic parties are planning to show strength in Kathmandu.
