Fierce road accident in southern Iran, 21 people killed due to bus overturning, more than 34 injured


A major road accident has happened in the southern part of Iran. Iran’s government media issued an official statement in this regard on Saturday (July 19, 2025). According to the statement, at least 21 people have died due to the overturning of a bus in this road accident.

Kavar Hospital director Mohsin Afrasiabi told the government TV channel, “It is a matter of great misfortune that 21 people have been confirmed in the accident so far.”

Head of emergency service gave information

Masood Abed, the head of the Emergency Service of Fars province, said about the accident that the accident took place in the southern part of Shiraz, the capital of the province. Apart from those who died in the accident, 34 other people have been injured.

Masood Abed said, “Relief and rescue work at the accident site is still going on. Only after a thorough investigation of the case, complete information will be given about the last figure and the accident.” He also said that the incident took place on Saturday (July 19, 2025) at 11:05 am according to local time. The rescue team reached the spot soon after receiving information about the overturning of the bus in a road accident.

Road accident took place 1,000 km from Tehran

He said that the accident took place near a city named Kavar, about 1,000 kilometers (600 mi) from Iran’s capital Tehran. However, the real causes of this accident have not been ascertained at the moment, but local officials will soon share information about this.

There are 17,000 road accidents in Iran every year

It is noteworthy that every year about 17,000 people are killed in road accidents in Iran. This figure of Iran includes it among the world’s highest road accidents. However, often these road accidents are attributed to ignoring safety standards, using old vehicles and lack of emergency services.
