In an era of evolving social dynamics, where interpersonal relationships are often perceived as increasingly fragile, the enduring bond between parents and children remains a steadfast constant. This unique connection is characterized by an unwavering devotion, with parents typically going to great lengths to protect and nurture their children. However, a recent case emerging from China has shocked the public, challenging this widely held perception.
Former chairman of the Bank of China Liu Lianghe has shocked everyone. Lianghe has been sentenced to death for abusing his position, accepting bribes totalling 141 crore, and distributing illegal loans amounting to 3,887 crore. His sentence has been suspended for two years. However, it is another intriguing case that has brought him back into the spotlight.
According to Chinese media reports, Lianghe got married for the fourth time in 2023, after which he was caught in a corruption case. Lianghe’s son wished to marry a young woman he had been courting. However, when he brought her home to meet his father, Lianghe himself became enamoured with her.
Lianghe allegedly manipulated his son into ending the relationship, claiming the woman was unworthy of him, came from a poor background, and was only interested in his wealth. Despite his reluctance, the son broke up with his girlfriend. Furthermore, Lianghe then arranged for his son to marry his friend’s daughter, thus removing him from the situation.
Following this, Lianghe leveraged his influence to locate his son’s former girlfriend and began sending her lavish gifts. The young woman soon accepted his marriage proposal, and they wed just six months after the couple’s break-up.
When Lianghe’s son discovered his ex-girlfriend was now his stepmother, he experienced a severe shock that necessitated hospitalisation. However, Lianghe was unable to enjoy his marriage for long. He faced accusations of corruption and received a death sentence in November 2023.
