Ranveer Allahbadia’s shocking question – “Would you rather watch your parents have sex or join them?” – wasn’t some slip of the tongue. It was lifted from another YouTube show, approved by India’s Got Latent’s panel, met with laughter from the audience, and apparently entertained by the contestant. But the moment the episode went live on YouTube, the mood shifted drastically. Outrage, multiple complaints, apology, and an FIR.
But the damage didn’t stop there. Allahbadia, who had maintained a clean image and hosted guests from all walks of life on his podcast, saw his credibility unravel overnight. Fans who once admired him for his insightful conversations began distancing themselves, and soon, multiple media reports claimed that he had lost over two million YouTube subscribers following the crass “joke”. But is that number real? Did he actually lose 2 million subscribers, or is there more to the story?
The 31-year-old runs two YouTube channels – Ranveer Allahbadia and BeerBiceps. While the former remains unaffected, the latter took a hit, losing 30,000 subscribers on February 10 – the very day the backlash intensified, complaints poured in, and an FIR was lodged in Assam.
At the time of writing this article, his subscriber count has dropped by another 10,000 on February 11, as per Social Blade.
His Instagram account BeerBiceps saw a drop of 3,752 followers, while his personal page Ranveer Allahbadia saw 12,814 people unfollow him.
On Facebook, BeerBiceps boasts a following of 1.3 million. However, after his crude remarks on India’s Got Latent, more than 1,000 people chose to unfollow him in twio days.
