ENG vs IND: KL Rahul becomes first Indian opener to score three Test hundreds in England

KL Rahul became the first Indian opener to score three Test hundreds in England, during India’s series opener in Leeds on Monday.

With his ton at Headingley, Rahul broke away from the four other Indians who have aggregated two hundreds in England as a Test opener: Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Merchant, Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri.

West Indian batting legend Gordon Greenidge has the most away hundreds (six) in England as an opener in Test cricket.

This was Rahul’s ninth Test century, and he got to the landmark with a double against Shoaib Bashir. Interestingly, eight of them have come away from home.

This is also Rahul’s fifth century in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) as an opener, drawing him closer to Sunil Gavaskar, who holds the Indian record with eight tons.
