ENG vs IND: Arshdeep on Test prep, Bumrah, and churros in Kent

India pacer Arshdeep Singh is relishing his return to Kent as he sharpens his red-ball skills ahead of the five-Test series against England starting June 20 in Leeds.

The 26-year-old, who played county cricket for Kent two years ago, is part of the Indian Test squad for the first time. India will play a four-day warm-up game against India A at the Kent County Ground in Beckenham from June 13.

Arshdeep, who impressed in IPL 2025 for Punjab Kings, said he is focused on rediscovering rhythm with the red ball.

“My only motivation was to get a feel for the rhythm — how the body feels, how the red ball is coming out of the hand,” he told BCCI.TV

India’s squad features a new generation of batters like Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Shubman Gill leading in the absence of the retired Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

“It was fun bowling to the batters. They looked quite compact… even though we were just working on rhythm, they were fully competing,” Arshdeep said. “Sai has joined the team for the first time, and he looked very compact too. The skipper looked in good touch.”

Arshdeep downplayed any talk of comparisons in a pace attack led by Jasprit Bumrah. “Whenever I hold the ball, I always feel that I am the best. But everyone knows — when you’re in an attack that includes a player named Jasprit Bumrah, then the word ‘comparison’ doesn’t even exist.”

He added that the focus remains on helping each other improve. “That’s where my focus lies.”

Back in familiar surroundings, Arshdeep said being in Kent brings him peace. “At first, you get that ‘homely’ feeling. I’ve spent two months here before… If you need peace of mind, this is the best place.”

“And if you have a sweet tooth, make sure to have some churros with it.”
