The England women’s team was penalised for slow over rate after its first match of a five-T20I series against India on Saturday at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
England was ruled two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.
“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” a statement release by ICC read.
Newly appointed England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt accepted the proposed sanctions after umpires Jacqueline Williams, James Middlebrook, Sue Redfern, and Anna Harris levelled the charge. This meant that there was no need for a formal hearing.
“Helen Pack of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction,” the statement said.
India stormed to a 97-run win, which was England’s largest defeat in the format. Smriti Mandhana’s maiden T20I century and debutant N. Sree Charani’s four-fer helped the Women in Blue take a 1-0 lead in the series.
