Errol Musk has never been one to sugarcoat his opinions, especially when it comes to his son, Elon Musk. The senior Musk recently stirred the pot once again, bluntly calling the Tesla and SpaceX mogul a “bad father”. During a candid conversation on the Wide Awake podcast, Errol didn’t mince words when asked about Elon’s parenting skills. “No, he hasn’t been a good father. The first child was too much with nannies and died in the care of a nanny. If Elon hears this, he’s going to shoot me or something,” he said.
The reference was to Elon’s firstborn, Nevada Alexander, who tragically passed away at just 10 weeks old due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. The interview, first spotlighted by The Daily Beast, continued with Errol painting a picture of Elon’s approach to fatherhood that was, in his view, too hands-off.
“Then he had five children, each one had their own nanny. It was a weird situation. He didn’t spend enough time with them,” he added.
Errol, who shares Elon with model and dietitian Maye Musk, reflected on how this parental distance affected not just Elon’s children but also those of his brother, Kimbal Musk.
“The result is the boys and Kimball’s two boys grew up not able to cross a street. Even the street outside, my daughters would say, ‘Dad, you won’t believe it. Elon’s kids and Kimball’s boys, can’t cross the road. We have to hold their hands across the road when they’re like 14 years old, can’t cross the road,'” Errol claimed.
Then, in a truly eyebrow-raising remark, Errol linked this sheltered upbringing to a more controversial claim, suggesting it played a role in one of Elon’s and one of Kimbal’s children identifying as transgender.
“Elon’s got to deal with it. It’s, it’s a bit worrying,” he said.
Elon’s estranged daughter, Vivian Wilson, has been openly critical of her father. Now 20 years old, she legally changed her name and cut ties with him after reaching adulthood. Her mother, Justine Musk, shares six children with the billionaire, reports The Independent.
Elon Musk, a father of 12, has been making headlines not just for his business ventures but also for bringing his young son X along to high-profile events, including a press conference in the Oval Office with President Donald Trump.
Elon Musk’s penchant for including his children in public affairs was on display again when he brought X, along with two of his other children, Azure and Strider, to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House.
Lil X was very polite today! You raised him well. He was so cute when he told DJT “please forgive me, I need to pee”. 🥰— ????Simon Wu (@sisisimon) February 12, 2025
However, not everyone was pleased with this move, his ex-partner, musician Grimes, voiced her disapproval. “He should not be in public like this. I did not see this, thank you for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh,” she wrote on Musk’s social media platform, X.

Elon and Grimes share two other children: Exa Dark Sideræl and Techno Mechanicus.
In addition to his children with Grimes, Musk also welcomed twins, Strider and Azure, in November 2021 with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis. The pair reportedly had another child in 2024.
