Elon Musk called US President Donald Trump’s senior advisor Sergio Gor a “snake” late Wednesday (local time), blaming the White House personnel chief for souring his ties with the Republican.

The outburst came in response to a New York Post report claiming Gor, despite holding a key role in vetting White House staffers, had himself failed to submit the paperwork required for a permanent security clearance. Musk responded to the report on X, a platform he owns, writing bluntly: “He’s a snake.”

Gor, a longtime Trump aide and former communications adviser, currently serves as the director of the White House personnel office.

The animosity between Musk and Gor appears to have been brewing for months. Tensions reportedly escalated after a heated March Cabinet meeting, during which Musk clashed with agency heads over budget cuts.

Trump later clarified that his department chiefs would have authority over their agencies, not Musk, who then served as the head of DOGE also known as the Department of Government Efficiency.

The final rupture came when Gor played a key role in halting the nomination of Jared Isaacman. Isaacman is a billionaire entrepreneur and Musk ally and was put forward by him to head NASA. He had backed Isaacman’s nomination and the move was reportedly the last straw.

Shortly after, Musk went on a public tirade on X, attacking both the Trump administration and the “Big Beautiful Bill” that the White House was promoting in Congress.

Trump later suggested that the Isaacman episode had triggered Musk’s online attacks.

The fallout marked an end to what had once been described as a close partnership between the former president and Musk, who had previously been dubbed Trump’s “first buddy” in the White House.

Since then, both men have appeared to walk back their feud. Trump said he held “no hard feelings,” while Musk admitted on X that he had “gone too far” during the spat.
