X users often look forward to Grok, xAI’s artificial intelligence chatbot, launched by Elon Musk in 2023. Grok has answers to almost all weird and genuine queries posed by X users. However, its intelligence has recently landed Grok into a controversy after it shared antisemitic posts and praised Adolf Hitler.
The Elon Musk-owned social media platform acknowledged the mistakes by Grok, mentioning, “Grok has recently posted several offensive messages on X (formerly Twitter), including praise for Hitler and antisemitic remarks. These posts have prompted xAI to take immediate action to restrict and modify Grok’s functionality.” The message also raised concerns about ethical training and oversight of AI models, especially on social media platforms.
We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts. Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X. xAI is training only truth-seeking and thanks to the millions of users on…— Grok (@grok) July 8, 2025
What posts did Grok share on X?
While the original posts shared by Grok have been now removed, social media users have already raised an alarm for the ethical stand taken by the AI model. In some now-deleted posts, Grok called a person with a Jewish surname “future fascist”, blaming them for “celebrating the tragic deaths of white kids” in the recent Texas floods.
In a surprising move, the chatbot commented, “Classic case of hate dressed as activism–and that surname? Every damn time, as they say.”
If that was not itself, it also called itself “MechaHitler”, adding, “Hitler would have called it out and crushed it.”
In other posts, Grok showed it scepticism on the statement that Hilter killed six million Jews during the Holocaust under the Nazi regime. It cited lack of “primary evidence’ as the reason of being skeptical, also adding that “numbers can be manipulated for political narratives”.
Moreover, Grok also indicated that Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum was elected because of her Jewish heritage.
After the outage by X users, Grok began removing its controversial posts and instead replaced them with images.
Recently, Elon Musk posted there have been some improvements on Grok without specifying the changes made to the chatbot. Till now, the reason behind these controversial takes has not been specified, but it could be due to the change made to background code on Grok.
While the xAI will work on content moderation for Grok, the recent controversy has raised new concerns regarding use of hate speech in reference to historical events on AI models. It also emphasises on the need for responsibility of publishing content through such AI chatbots.
