Eid-ul-Azha, also known as Bakrid, depends on the moon of the 12th month of the Islamic almanac ‘Dhu al-Hija’. The moon of dust has been seen in Saudi Arabia on the evening of 27 May 2025. Due to which the dust started on 28 May 2025 and the date of Eid-ul-Azha was fixed on 6 June 2025. At the same time, there is Bakrid in India on 7 June.

Why is there a difference in dates between India and Saudi Arabia?
Often this question comes in people’s minds. There are some special reasons behind this. The process of viewing the moon in the top Saudi Arabia is different and the Islamic months often begin before.

The moon is seen locally in India, so there is a delay of a day here. The moon was seen in India on 28 May 2025, after which Eid-ul-Azha i.e. Bakrid will be celebrated here on 7 June 2025.

Seeing the moon, why is it important?
Eid-ul-Azha is organized in memory of Haj Yatra and the sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (Alaihi Salaam). In the Islamic tradition, the moon starts by seeing the moon, so every country recognizes the dates based on its local lunar philosophy.

Importance of Bakrid
According to Islamic belief, the sacrifice on Bakrid reminds me of the love of Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail towards Allah. According to a belief, Hazrat Ibrahim was going to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismail on the same day of God.

Allah was very happy with this devotion and dedication of him and he gave life to his son. Since then, the holy festival was celebrated in his memory. On this day people sacrifice animals and divide its meat into three parts, poor, relatives and for themselves.
